Background

Julie Schweiss is a phenomenal artist currently residing in Hector, Minnesota. Now retired, she returns to painting after 36 years away. Julie spends her time painting and creating wonderful pieces of art. Before retirement, she worked at Schweiss Doors in the sales department - the company her husband started in the 1980s and still runs to this day.

Experience In Art

Julie Schweiss is a self-taught artist who has worked with different mediums but prefers to work with oil paints on gessobord and canvas panel. This medium and material allows a richer, vibrant finished piece. Being self-taught Julie doesn't have a specific “process”. She finds inspiration in nature and often photographs the scenes she wants to paint to create her work. Each painting has its own process whether it's fine details in the prairie grasses to thick coats of fox fur. Every piece has its own story and process. Julie typically works on between 4-6 pieces in the same period of time and each piece takes a different amount of time to complete.
